The first milestone for this experiment was concrete: load the first SOCOM II mission, get player control, and record movement and shooting. That milestone is working.
What is running
The clip shows “Seeding Chaos,” the first campaign mission, in a Windows executable launched through Steam with Proton on Bazzite. The recording uses actual keyboard controls, including movement, alternate keyboard look, and firing.
This work builds on Scotho’s SOCOM Unzipped project and its PS2 recompilation tooling. The existing project supplies the foundation; the work here is an AI-assisted local build, input changes, configuration, and testing. The game itself remains the work of its original creators.
A first milestone
There is still work to do. Performance varies, full campaign saving needs verification, and the Steam Controller needs a hands-on test. Keyboard movement and rifle fire are demonstrated in this recording.
The longer-term idea is private games with friends and experiments with weapons, maps, and rankings. Four-player matches and those modifications have not been demonstrated yet. For now, this is the first playable milestone, with a recording of what actually works.
